From Porters and Maids to Management and Business Owners
In Business Las Vegas offers a look at the upward mobility of the area’s Hispanic citizens, summarized in a quote from Robert Gomez, the owner of Magic Brite Janitorial and vice president of the Latin Chamber of Commerce:
"It used to be when Hispanics worked in this country we were the maids and porters," Gomez said. "I'm a second-generation Hispanic. I was born in the U.S., and I have a college degree in hotel management (from UNLV). Therefore, more of us are becoming business owners, we're management people, we're moving up in the ranks of employment to higher paying jobs."
Multiply Mr. Gomez by thousands of Hispanics across the country, and you get a tremendous multi-year increase in Hispanic buying power.
